Brodcasting and journalism notes

NOTES ON NEWS

Define “Broadcast Journalism” in 1-3 sentences.

Brodcasting: air instantly on tv,raido, and internet.
journalism: reporting of current events

List and describe the six criteria of newsworthiness.

TITLE DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE
1. Unusualness- the different, the unusual, the out of the ordinary. EX: church roof collasped.

2. Significance- important events that affect many people. EX: taxes,elections,wars.

3. Timeliness- old news isnt news: its HISTORY. EX: people wanna hear about it when it happens

4. Proximity- people want to know about nearby events. EX: local school gang activity.

5. Prominence- when well-known people, buildings, or places are involved, that is news. EX: famous people
6. Human Interest- Stories about ordinary people or animals, humorous or dramatic. EX: heartwarming
